Upgrading the Apache Junction Unified School District’s phone system at a cost of $329,419 paid over five years and $15,000 a year thereafter was discussed recently by the governing board.
The school district’s phone system has serious deficits, creating safety issues and inefficiencies for staff, according to a phone quote and report with logos from AJUSD and nVision Networking Inc.
“This situation impedes communication for the district community and an outage in an emergency would create serious consequences,” the report states.
Some of the features of the proposed CISCO telephone system are: voice, video, mobility, messaging, conferencing and intercom.
The cost of the system is $153,413.16 for the product; $68,222.36 for service; $39,713.89 for Informacast; $25,089.54 in taxes; $3,000 for cabling; and $39,980 for installation, support and training, according to the proposal from nVision.
The district needs, according to the report:
10 student-use phones
20 executive-office phones
10 key expansion units, with additional buttons for executive-office phones
six conference phones
70 basic office phones
320 classroom phones
84 wall mount kits
Six two-port fax/analog adapters
The telephone system was discussed, with no decision made, at the May 26 AJUSD Governing Board meeting. Meeting by Zoom were President Jodi Ehrlich, Vice President Cami Garcia and board members Dena Kimble and Chelsea Connolly. Board member Christa Rizzi was not at the meeting.
