Phoenix police are investigating a shooting in Anthem on Wednesday that left a man dead from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound and in woman in “extreme critical condition,” authorities said.

The shooting occurred in the 42000 block of North 41st Drive. The man was pronounced dead at the scene, and the woman was taken to a hospital, police said.

Several nearby businesses and schools were put on lockdown as a precaution but have reopened, police said.
