Heller: A positive experience at VA center

Posted

The Phoenix VA hospital is doing a good job.

Dennis Fossey is a Vietnam veteran and a member of the American Legion Post 94 in Sun City West. He serves as their financial officer and is a member of the Honor Guard.

Since moving here from Minnesota eight years ago, he has been receiving medical care at the Phoenix VA hospital and the Surprise VA clinic. He has had numerous doctor appointments and procedures, such as a hip replacement in 2016, his gallbladder removed in 2017, cataract surgery in both eyes in 2018 and cancer removed from his face in 2016, 2018 and 2019.

In January 2021, he had a cancer tumor removed from his bladder by Dr. Kirsten Janosek. He said that she was by his side every step of the way and her entire team was awesome. After his cancer surgery, Kim Skelton of the Arizona Department of Veterans Services contacted him and went over the Agent Orange benefits programs, she went through all the paperwork and submitted his claim. She was very professional.

He also has been getting his prescriptions filled for many years and they are never late. He recently received both of his COVID-19 vaccinations.

The nurses administering the shots were very organized and made everyone feel very comfortable.

He said that the Phoenix VA hospital employees are doing the very best that they can considering the large number of veterans in Arizona. They should all be treated with the utmost respect. I am sure many veterans feel the same way.
