David Mueller

Posted

David was born at the Cedars of Lebanon Hospital, Los Angeles, California, on July 20, 1937.
He started piano and organ lessons as a pre-teen, but quickly chose the organ as his instrument of choice. His parents owned and operated a pharmacy, and as a young teen he worked behind the soda fountain. David attended Cal State and majored in architecture and music.
His first real position was in the business department of the Los Angeles Times. He also began playing the organ at many churches in the area, everything from Synagogues and Temples to Cathedrals. He treasured the opportunity of playing in St. Peter’s Basilica in Rome as well as in many cathedrals across Europe.
David worked also as a Funeral Director at the Hollywood Hills Forest Lawn Cemetery. He not only continued playing the organ, but over the years was involved with the design and installation of many organs in the Los Angeles Archdiocese.
David left California in 1979, and spent ten years in Jerome, owning and operating the Candy Kitchen Cafe with his partner Don Thuesen. Next they moved to Minnesota, where David continued as an organist and choir director.
On Christmas morning, 1998, when he awoke to a temperature of -60 degrees, the decision was made to return to Arizona. After settling in Sun City West, David continued playing the organ at St. Clement of Rome and at Our Lady of Lourdes for almost 20 years and directed the Lourdes choir for many years.
After a long battle with Parkinson’s Disease, David passed to his eternal rest on August 30, 2020. He was a remarkable man and will be sorely missed. Condolences may be shared at www.menkefuneralhome.com.
