Scottsdale native seeks donation to play Olympic baseball

Posted

Scottsdale native and Israeli-American baseball player Jeremy Wolf has created a GoFundMe page in hopes of raising money while he prepares and trains for the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo.

Mr. Wolf, who played high school baseball at Chaparral High School, is hoping to raise $16,758 to give him “the opportunity to focus solely on [his] performance and development,” prior to the summer games. The 2020 Summer Olympics will run from July 24 to Aug. 9 in Tokyo.

Mr. Wolf is living in Tel Aviv, Israel but is returning to Arizona to train throughout the spring, according to a press release.

He was part of the 2011 and 2012 state championship team at Chaparral as well as a 2016 national championship at Division III Trinity College in San Antonio. The New York Mets drafted him into their organization following college but Mr. Wolf said, via the GoFundMe page, his career ended in 2017.

He founded More Than Baseball, a nonprofit organization that helps major league organizations and minor league players focus on developing talent and simplify difficult aspects of minor-league life.

Mr. Wolf said Israel Association of Baseball Director Peter Kurz offered him a spot on the Israeli team after he offered to bring field and baseball equipment to Israel.

“Unfortunately, leaving the states and playing for an Olympic team comes with its financial struggles,” Mr. Wolf said on his GoFundMe page. “Though that’s normal for athletes worldwide, it’s still incredibly difficult to justify pursuing this opportunity when you have a load of personal and student loan debt waiting for you after your career.
