Scottsdale’s Mayor Jim Lane attended Rotary Park Day’s dedication ceremony and thanked all involved with the park’s continued development.

Representatives from Salt River Materials Group, City of Scottsdale, Rock Solid Concrete Construction and Fleming and Sons were on hand to celebrate completion of the park’s recent construction project, according to a press release .

The new concrete Scottsdale Rotary Park’s ramada addition was dedicated on Oct. 28 by the mayor at the Rotary Park Plaza, 7959 E. Doubletree Ranch Road, where he and Rotary committee chair, Ken Brown, thanked the following park project’s sponsors and contributors:

James Carusone and the Salt River Materials Group, The City of Scottsdale, and Rotarians James Hann Design, AIA and David Pastor; materials, equipment and accessories donation—SRMG; ready mix concrete delivery: Rock Solid Concrete Construction; SRMG Staff and Walter Hoff (Lead), Mario Burns, Sr., and Mario Burns, Jr., and Ernie Whiting; concrete pumping: Fleming and Sons - Derek Hauser, G.M. and Lee Hall, operator.

Club president, Don Loose, thanked the Rotary Club’s Park Committee: Kenneth Brown, Craig Miller and James Flynn. SRMG’s representative and Rotarian James Carusone was presented with the American flag, which flew above Rotary Park’s Unity Plaza from April, 22 to Oct. 28, the release said.

As part the dedication ceremony, members and guests of the Rotary Club of Scottsdale enjoyed its semi-annual Rotary Day at the Park. Rotarian Carroll Huntress and owner of Scottsdale’s Sugar Bowl, provided the food; Rotarian Ken Brown and friend of Club, Rob Adler barbecued brats; Sandy Miller handled setup and beverages; while Rotarian Gil Gifford arranged sound system.

Scottsdale Rotary Park, an eight acre oasis in the heart of Gainey Ranch, was built by Rotary Club of Scottsdale members and then donated to the City of Scottsdale, according to the release.

The park features lighted walking paths, a children’s playground, a greenbelt, picnic ramadas, a restroom and “the world’s first plaza designed in the shape of the Rotary symbol.”

In 2002, the Rotary Club of Scottsdale added Unity Plaza and the Spirit of Unity Flagpole to Rotary Park, which were a Rotary International Centennial Project commemorating its 100th anniversary in 2005.
