5 field trips approved for Queen Creek students

Field trips for Queen Creek Middle School pom athletes and for Queen Creek High School’s orchestra and band have been approved.
The Queen Creek Unified School District Governing Board approved the field trips as part of a consent agenda vote at a recent meeting.
Forum festival
A total of 50 orchestra students from the high school will travel March 19-21 to the Southern California Forum Festival in San Dimas.
Students, fundraisers and tax-credit donations will pay for the $22,500 cost for hotel, transportation, festival fees and breakfast on Friday and Saturday, according to a field trip form.
Pom nationals
The Pom Team at the middle school is to travel Feb. 15-18 to the Pom Nationals in Anaheim, California.
It will cost $7,780 for the registration, transportation by district vehicle and lodging for 10 participants. Athletic fees will take care of $2,780, with a $450 cost to each student, a field trip form states.
Regional concert
A total of 44 band students at the high school are to travel with four chaperons by district bus Feb. 27-28 to Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff for the Southwestern Regional Concert Band Festival.
Students are to pay $35 each. An additional registration fee is $300, according to a field trip form.
The students are to perform at the adjudicated festival. They will develop skills by working in sectionals and master classes with NAU music faculty members, according to the form.
Area festival
A total of 28 students in the high school’s orchestra are to travel to the Arizona Band and Orchestra Directors Association Area Festival either Feb. 20-21 or March 3-5, as the weather decides the dates.
The cost of $1,680 includes hotel, transportation and breakfast.
“Students will travel to Flagstaff to perform at the ABODA Area Festival, attend a workshop, attend a tour of the constellations relating to three pieces of study for the music we are performing, attend a tour of the NAU School of Music,” according to a field trip form.
“The purposes are to do community service while preparing for our competition performance --- which leads to advancement to the State Festival with a strong enough performance,” it states.
Students will also attend an educational clinic offered by the ABODA board that helps students further their performance abilities, the form states.
Park festival
A total of 80 band students from the high school are to travel in two charter buses April 17-20 to the Santa Ana, California Music in the Park Festival.
Parent/student payments and fundraising is to raise the $22,000 needed, which includes registration, transportation, lodging and meals, according to a field trip form.
The students will develop skills by preparing and performing at a festival in front of national adjudicators, according to the form.
